Ryan Shazier joined Philadelphia Eagles safety Malcolm Jenkins in serving as honorary captains at Ohio State's spring game on Saturday.

Shazier has been at a variety of sporting events in recent weeks, and he credits those appearances with helping his recovery from a spinal injury suffered in Week 13 against the Cincinnati Bengals.

"I think it helps out a lot," Shazier said, according to Bill Bender of the Sporting News. "At the end of the day, when somebody is going through something, whenever you are allowed to get back to your regular routine it allows you to feel like yourself. I feel like that definitely helps me out a lot just to get back on my feet and get back moving."

Though Shazier has already been ruled out for the entirety of the 2018 season by Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert, he said he's been making steady progress in his recovery and gives much credit to the fans in Pittsburgh and at Ohio State.

"It's been outstanding support," Shazier said. "I still get support to this day from the day I got hurt. There has been so much mail that I can't read it all. I'm grateful for all the support and all the prayers."
