Jim Brown weighs in on anthem protests: 'I don't desecrate my flag'

Legendary NFL running back Jim Brown made it abundantly clear that he doesn't support the national anthem protests going on around the league.

"I'm an American," Brown told The Post Game. "I don't desecrate my flag and my national anthem ... this is my country, and I'll work out the problems, but I'll do it in an intelligent manner."

Brown was first asked about the Colin Kaepernick situation and responded by saying he understands the sentiment behind the quarterback kneeling for the anthem, but doesn't believe activism and professional sports go hand in hand.

"I want to be in his corner," Brown said of Kaepernick. "Colin has to make up his mind whether he's truly an activist or he's a football player. Football is commercial. You have owners. You have fans. And you want to honor that if you're making that kind of money."

Brown's comments came on the heels of LeSean McCoy - one of this generation's star running backs - openly questioning whether Kaepernick's skill level warrants the unwanted publicity that he'd inevitably bring to any team that chooses to sign him.

"You have to understand there's intelligence involved ... I can't be two things at once that contradict each other," Brown added. "If I sign for money, then the people I sign with, they have rules and regulations."

With the regular season just two weeks away, it seems less and less likely that Kaepernick will be on a roster this season after his anthem protests sent shock waves through the league last season. Given that the NFL is a business, Brown doesn't seem all that surprised.
