Cardinals' Palmer, Fitzgerald will sit out Hall of Fame Game

The Arizona Cardinals' two most vital veterans will get the night off when the team opens the preseason with the annual Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 3.

Neither Carson Palmer nor Larry Fitzgerald will play in the game against the Dallas Cowboys, head coach Bruce Arians announced Saturday.

Palmer will turn 38 before the season's end, while Fitzgerald will turn 33 next month.

It's typical for starters to play only a series or two in the Hall of Fame Game, which occurs very early in training camp, so the Cardinals' decision to rest a few older players is hardly radical.

It's also possible other veterans, such as linebacker Karlos Dansby, will sit out the game, Arians suggested.

Arians did promise that the Cardinals' starters will get more reps than usual in the preseason, so it's possible Palmer and Fitzgerald will play more than a series or two in the team's second preseason game.
