Report: Melo ripped Knicks following collapse vs. 76ers

USA Today Sports

Carmelo Anthony was understandably irate following the New York Knicks' loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

Every loss to the woeful Sixers is hard to swallow, but Wednesday's defeat was particularly painful. The Knicks blew a 10-point lead in the game's final two minutes before losing on a buzzer-beater from unheralded guard T.J. McConnell.

Anthony looked downright miserable when the final buzzer sounded, then proceeded to sound off on his team in the locker room, sources told Frank Isola of the New York Daily News.

In particular, the veteran expressed frustration over being frozen out in the Knicks' final possession, which saw a slumping Kristaps Porzingis airball a triple which set up McConnell's dramatics. Anthony's 28 points led all scorers, although he only hit 11-of-25 from the field along with four free throws.

Anthony's fury carried over to the post-game podium when he dubbed the loss "unacceptable."

The Knicks did manage to snap their slide with a win over the Chicago Bulls (without Jimmy Butler) on Thursday, but that was only their second win in 11 tries. Their backslide has seen the Knicks drop out of the Eastern Conference playoff picture as the team becomes embroiled in controversy after controversy.

This week's blow-ups have seen Anthony and Kyle O'Quinn ejected, while Derrick Rose went AWOL without a clear explanation for his absence. In other words, there's no shortage of reasons for Anthony to be upset.
