Thomas denies badmouthing Schroder's mom: He's not on my level

USA Today Sports

There was certainly no love lost between point guards Isaiah Thomas and Dennis Schroder when the Boston Celtics and Atlanta Hawks faced each other on Friday, with the two chirping at each other both during and after the game.

Schroder later accused Thomas of talking smack about his mother, saying how he'd never go down that road himself because he has "too much class for that."

Rather than allow his character be dragged through the mud like that, Thomas addressed Schroder's accusations head on Sunday afternoon.

"I don't talk about nobody's moms, I don't cuss at nobody's moms, and I don't talk about peoples families," Thomas said. "So whatever he said, that's a 100 percent lie, and he knows that.

"I always say, 'keep it hoop.' When it comes to basketball, I talk about basketball. I'm going to trash talk, and I'm going to compete. I'm going to do whatever I can to make my team win a game. I don't even know his mom to curse at her like he said I did or whatever he's lying about. From this point on, I don't even want to talk about Dennis Schroder because he's not even on a level I'm trying to be on. I'm not even focused on him anymore."

What originally sparked the beef between the two came during Game 3 of the Celtics-Hawks opening-round series in last year's playoffs when Thomas smacked Schroder - who retaliated by knocking him down on an aggressive pick the next play - right in the face.

Boston walked away with a 103-101 road victory at Philips Arena on Friday after Thomas knocked down a game-winning step-back jumper with 2.4 seconds remaining on the clock.
