Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater suffered a completely torn ACL, dislocated knee, and other structural damage when he was injured at Tuesday's practice, the team announced Tuesday evening.

The team statement reads:

Teddy Bridgewater suffered a non-contact injury today at practice. The injury was quickly identified as a dislocated knee. The injury was stabilized, and he was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment and evaluation. After undergoing an MRI, it was determined that Teddy suffered a complete tear to his ACL and other structural damage. Fortunately, there appears to be no nerve or arterial damage. Surgical repair will be scheduled within the next few days. Although the recovery time will be significant, we expect Teddy to make a full recovery. I would like to thank all of the medical professionals and our athletic training staff for all of their help today. Teddy has already displayed the attitude needed to overcome this injury and attack his rehab.

The third-year quarterback is expected to miss the entire 2016 season due to the injury, though the team didn't confirm a timetable. It's devastating news for the Vikings, who were expected to be among the league's top teams with Bridgewater under center.

The lack of nerve damage does reduce the likelihood the injury will be a long-term, reoccurring issue.

Coach Mike Zimmer did not specify whether the Vikings will look for a new starting quarterback this season, but it's likely they'll bring one in, since backup Shaun Hill is currently their only other player with NFL experience at the position.
