Green thrilled for Team USA opportunity

Ahead of next month's Olympics in Rio, United States' forward Draymond Green has expressed his delight in being included in coach Mike Krzyzewski's 12-man squad.

Green, 26, will play a vital role in the U.S.' drive for a 15th Olympic crown, and with only five defeats in 135 contests, the pressure is on to nab a third-straight gold medal.

Even with the weight of expectations associated with wearing the Team USA jersey, Green is elated at the opportunity to play on behalf of his country.

"Playing for Team USA means a lot to me, just to go out and be able to represent our country in a way that we can because it represents so much more than 'you'," Green told Sports Illustrated.

"When you're playing for the USA, you're playing a country, you're playing for those that came before you, those that come after you," the Michigan State product added. "And you know I'm thrilled for the opportunity just to go out and play for my country."

More than just playing for his country, Green will be playing alongside two Golden State teammates, Klay Thompson and summer recruit Kevin Durant.

Heavily favored to win a second NBA ring in three seasons, Green's focus is on the Olympic Games and the honor of being selected to sport the red, white and blue.

"Not many people get to do that, and it's not something that I take for granted and I'm very very thankful for it."

Green and Co. kick off their hunt for gold on Aug. 6 against China before a clash two days later with Venezuela. The U.S. will finish off Group A play with tilts against Serbia, Australia, and 2012 quarterfinalists France.
