Bills wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin hauled in an apparent touchdown pass that would've given Buffalo the lead entering halftime. However, upon further review, the referees controversially overturned their initial decision and delivered a devastating blow to Buffalo's playoff hopes.

McDermott said he couldn't believe the sequence of events during his media availability.

"I saw Kelvin’s catch before halftime as a touchdown. I’m at a loss how a play like that can be overturned," McDermott told reporters postgame.

Bills running back LeSean McCoy also sounded off on the officials, implying that New England received an unfair advantage on the decision.

"Officials up here, they always find a way to get it right for the Patriots," McCoy told ESPN's Mike Rodak. "That's not the reason why we lost, but is sure would have helped out in the game ...

"It's just crazy man, because you put so much into it, and then you get robbed like that. C'mon. That's a touchdown."

Referee Craig Wrolstad explained the decision after the game.

"I think we looked at the angle where we had a foot drag early before he had control, and then we looked at when he had control and then we went back again to look at the feet," Wrolstad said to a pool reporter, via Pro Football Talk's Josh Alper. "It was determined clearly that he was not able to get his second foot down after he had control."

The Patriots subsquently stormed through the second half to defeat the Bills 37-16.
