Report: Thunder in strong position to re-sign Durant after meeting

The Oklahoma City Thunder were the first of six teams believed to be meeting with All-Star forward Kevin Durant, and it sounds like things couldn't have gone much better between the two parties.

The four-time league scoring champion, along with agent Rich Kleiman and longtime friend/manager Charlie Bell, sat down with the team for a five-hour meeting Thursday, sources told ESPN's Marc Stein.

Stein reports the "successful" meeting put the Thunder in a "strong position" to re-sign Durant.

Meetings with the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Clippers are reportedly scheduled in the Hamptons for Friday, while the San Antonio Spurs and Boston Celtics will see Durant on Saturday. The Miami Heat have also secured an invitation and will speak to the former league MVP on Sunday to end the weekend.

The Thunder want to be the last team to get into Durant's ear, though, and hope they'll be able to secure another meeting after the other five teams make their pitches.

Oklahoma City has a leg up on the competition by owning Durant's Bird Rights, meaning it can offer more money over a longer period of time with bigger annual raises.

Durant averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and five assists last season for the Thunder, shooting 50.5 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from 3-point range.
