Phil Mickelson carries $8,100 in cash

Joe Camporeale-USA TODAY Sports

To quote the inimitable Jerry Seinfeld: Phil Mickelson's wallet is "morbidly obese."

Golf Digest published a fun piece 10 days ago, asking golfers, their partners, caddies, and PGA officials one important question: "How Much Cash Do You Carry?"

With credit cards and e-wallets ruling the day, the answers varied, and some of them were fantastic. Mickelson's stood out.

The man called "Lefty," known to drop a generous tip, leaves nothing to chance. On the day Golf Digest caught up with him, he was carrying a whopping $8,100 in cash. He even texted the author of the piece with a breakdown: "$6,500 in $100s and $1,600 in $20s. $8,100 total."

There isn't a wallet on this planet big enough.

"I want to take care of people," Mickelson said. "You shouldn't be expecting stuff for free. If someone does something for you, you should take care of them."

Cash, for Mickelson at least, remains king.
