Report: Vikings 'do not foresee' Adrian Peterson as part of their future
The Minnesota Vikings are reportedly ready to move on from running back Adrian Peterson following his indictment on a felony child-abuse charge in Texas.
According to Chris Mortensen of ESPN, the Vikings "do not foresee Peterson in their future." Additionally, he reports that one source said Peterson "really doesn't get it" and "is in denial" about his short- and long-term future with the team.
"Several league sources say Adrian Peterson has not come to grips with the fact that his 2014 has all but officially ended," Mortensen said Sunday morning, per CBS Sports. "His goal to break Emmitt Smith's all-time rushing record is now a fading dream. And his future is in doubt after being indicted for these child abuse charges related to inflicting injuries on his four-year old son."
Peterson was placed on the NFL's exempt list Wednesday, which bars him from all team activities until his legal proceedings are resolved. Vikings owner Zygi Wilf admitted the team made a mistake in allowing Peterson back onto the field.
Mortensen reports that regardless of the outcome of Peterson's legal case, he will face "severe" discipline from the league.
