Report: Heat sign Shannon Brown to 1-year deal

The post-LeBron era in Miami continues to take shape, as the Heat scrabble  for ways to replace the most irreplaceable player on the planet.

The latest player to take his talents to South Beach is free-agent guard Shannon Brown, according to Ira Winderman of the Sun Sentinel.

At 6-foot-4, Brown is a classic tweener, undersized for a shooting guard, but not a skilled enough passer or ballhandler to man the point.

His calling card is his athleticism, though at 28 - with eight NBA seasons under his belt - Brown lacks the explosiveness that once made him a highlight-reel mainstay.

After solid seasons with the Lakers and Suns, Brown had his least productive season in years during the 2013-14 season, which he split between the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks. He averaged just 2.2 points in 8.7 minutes, while shooting a putrid 36.4 percent from the field. He was released by the Knicks in July.

USA Today's Sam Amick reports that the deal is for one season, at the veteran's minimum ($1.3 million). The Heat will be Brown's eighth NBA team.
