Jason Lane, who played seven seasons in the majors as an outfielder with the Houston Astros and the San Diego Padres will make his first MLB start - as a pitcher - on Monday.

The 37-year-old will take the spot of scheduled starter Ian Kennedy, who went down with a strained oblique. Kennedy's start will likely be pushed back to later in the team's homestand.

Lane appeared on the mound in relief for the Padres in June, pitching 4 1/3 scoreless innings, and when he starts, he'll be the oldest pitcher in seven years to make his first major league start.

According to SI.com, no pitcher at least Lane's age making his first start has gone more than five innings since Satchel Paige went seven for Cleveland on Aug. 3, 1948. Paige was 42.
