GIF: Puig gives Hunter menacing finger-wag after outfield assist is overturned

Steve Mitchell / USA Today Sports

Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig made another one of those maddeningly brilliant "Yasiel Puig" plays in the second inning on Tuesday against the Detroit Tigers.

Puig made a reckless play on a Tori Hunter drive that went over his head in right, running himself nearly all the way to the corner wall as the ball kicked up and caromed. Miraculously (or perhaps predictably), instead of flying over his head, the ball jumped straight into his magnetic glove, whereupon he spun and fired a perfect strike to second base.

The ball beat Hunter, but shortstop Miguel Rojas' tag, a replay review would later show, did not.

So Hunter got off easy. But Puig wanted him to know that he wouldn't be so lucky next time. Hunter took it in stride.

Hunter took it in stride. He knew he was safe anyway

The two players shared a smile, but the play actually proved to be a major turning point. Hunter's double kickstarted a five-run second for the Tigers, who trailed 5-0 at that point.

By the eighth inning, they'd turned the game into a romp, leading the Dodgers 14-5.
