Whether it's mustaches, goatees, or neck beards, NFL players clearly love facial hair.

DirecTV conducted a very extensive study breaking down how players around the league get groomed for game day. The New York Giants rank as the NFL's "beardiest" team, followed closely by the Kansas City Chiefs, Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, and New York Jets.

Those teams are a combined 22-10 this season, which makes you wonder if there's a correlation between facial hair and performance.

The study found that quarterbacks who are clean shaven have a rating of 92.7 and throw for 3,420 yards, while those with a full beard have a rating of 85.7 and throw for 1,929 yards.

The clean-shaven look is most popular among quarterbacks, at 44 percent. Running backs prefer the mustache, while defensive backs are most likely to be found with an unconnected goatee. Overall, 81 percent of NFL players have some sort of beard.

The Detroit Lions lead the way in the NFL when it comes to beards and mustaches. The San Diego Chargers, meanwhile, have the most clean-shaven faces.
