Report: Jim Schwartz likely to be fired if Lions fail to make playoffs

Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz is coaching for his job in the season's final two games, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Rapoport cites a source inside the Lions organization who says the belief is Schwartz will be fired if the Lions fail to make the playoffs. In order to qualify for postseason play, the Lions need to win their final two games, and they need both the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears to lose at least one game, too.

If the Lions fail to make the playoffs, Schwartz will have led the team to just one postseason berth (and no postseason wins) in his five years as head coach. He will have a regular-season winning percentage below .400.

Unlike Lions teams of years past, the current incarnation of the team is believed to have the talent necessary to be a Super Bowl contender. Matthew Stafford, Calvin Johnson and Ndamukong Suh are all top drafts picks in their prime.
